Compiling Gnome 2.18 on Debian Etch (amd64)

I've been wandering aimlessly trying to come up with a project to hack on and keep running into brick walls or out of motivation. Having exhausted my ideas I figure I may as well spend some time trying to fix some gnome-love bugs and see where that leads me.

A Debian Etch RC1 Review

As alluded to in my previous post, I've decided to give Debian Etch RC1 a test run on my machine after a couple years with Ubuntu and now Fedora. My reasons for doing so are discussed at length in that previous post, but basically I kind of miss running a .deb based distribution, and I'm curious how a more current Debian system stacks up against the user friendly and wildly popular distributions of the day.

10(ish) Years of Linux

I got my first Linux distribution online from my dorm room in the fall of 1999. Since that night Linux has meant a lot, an endless source of entertainment, a liberating tool for learning during my computer science degree, and a big factor in bringing me to my current position of employment. I've toyed with Red Hat, Debian, OpenBSD, FreeBSD, Gentoo, Ubuntu, and most recently Fedora. This post is a little background on those travels and why I'm starting to think about Debian once again. If I had children I'd subject them to this long boring story with no point instead, but I don't.
